After his family relocated to Lagos, he continued his education at St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebute Metta, graduating with excellent results. Dr. Olukoya pursued his secondary education at Methodist Boys’ High School, Lagos, graduating with Grade One Distinction, ranking as the best student in his set, and experiencing a spiritual transformation when he became born again.

In 1976, he gained admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), graduating in 1980 with a first-class degree in Microbiology, a historic achievement as the first and only individual to attain such a distinction in the department since the university's establishment. He furthered his studies on a Commonwealth scholarship at the University of Reading, UK, earning a Ph.D. in molecular genetics in record time, possibly making him the first Nigerian to obtain such a degree in the field.

His impact on biotechnology and healthcare in Nigeria became evident with the discovery of Dogik, a new type of Pap (Ogi), designed as a weaning food with improved nutritional qualities to control diarrhea. The laboratory he established ranks among the pioneers in gene research in West Africa.

Journey Into Ministry

In 1989, while still employed at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya initiated a prayer meeting in his living room on a Wednesday. The initial gathering attracted over two dozen participants. Subsequent meetings were organized as the power of God manifested, bringing about verifiable miracles in the lives of those in attendance. The growing number of people necessitated a larger venue, leading to the relocation of the prayer meetings to 60 Old Yaba Road, Yaba, Lagos, and later to 13 Olasimbo Street, Onike, Yaba, near the second gate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). This location became the International Headquarters of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM).
