Before answering the call to ministry, Pastor Adeboye had a background in mathematics, showcasing the diverse talents and interests he possesses. As the National President of the Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF), he plays a crucial role in fostering spiritual growth among students in various institutions across Nigeria.

In addition to his leadership in the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye is the founder and President of Christ the Redeemers Ministry (CRM), contributing to the expansion and impact of the church's mission. Beyond the confines of the church, he has made significant contributions to education by establishing Redeemers University in 2005, located in Ede, Osun State.

Background & Personal Life


Pastor E.A. Adeboye, born on March 3, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State, Nigeria, came from a family of six, with his father working as a peasant farmer. His educational journey began at Ilesha Grammar School, Osun State. Subsequently, he pursued a degree in Mathematics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), but the civil war disrupted his studies.

Undeterred, Pastor Adeboye continued his academic pursuits at the University of Lagos, earning a bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 1967. He later obtained a Master's degree in hydrodynamics from the same university and went on to achieve a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, also from the University of Lagos. His academic achievements led to his appointment as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Lagos.

In 1967, at the age of 25, he married Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adenike Adeboye. Their union has been blessed with four children who have all become influential figures in their own right: Pastor Adeolu Adeboye, Pastor (Mrs.) Bolu Adeboye, Pastor Dare Adeboye, and Pastor Leke Adeboye.

Beyond his academic and family life, Pastor E.A. Adeboye's dedication to serving God and his leadership in the Redeemed Christian Church of God has made him a notable figure in the global Christian community.

Journey Into Ministry

Before entering full-time ministry, Pastor E.A. Adeboye pursued a successful career in academia. Driven by a passion for education, he aspired to become a Vice-Chancellor. He worked as a mathematics lecturer at both the University of Lagos and the University of Ilorin.

Pastor Adeboye's spiritual journey took a significant turn on July 29, 1973, when he committed his life to Christ and joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Initially serving as an interpreter for Pastor Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, who preached primarily in Yoruba, Pastor Adeboye was ordained as a pastor in 1977. Following the passing of Pastor Akindayomi in 1981, Pastor Adeboye assumed leadership as the General Overseer of RCCG in 1987.

For three years, Pastor Adeboye balanced his responsibilities as the General Overseer with a part-time lecturing position at the University of Ilorin. Eventually, he made the decision to dedicate himself fully to pastoral work, resigning from his lecturing job.

Under Pastor Adeboye's leadership, RCCG has experienced remarkable growth and global expansion. The establishment of the Redemption Camp, a vast piece of land on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, stands as a symbol of this expansion. The annual Holy Ghost Congress Service is held at this location.

RCCG, under his guidance, has spread to over 196 nations worldwide. Pastor Adeboye's vision is to plant Redeemed Churches within a short distance in both developing and developed cities, reflecting his commitment to making the church accessible. Pastor E.A. Adeboye's life and background have been the subject of a film titled "Enoch."
